About

From 2015 to 2023, Eric was a research assistant and postdoc at the Digital Signal Processing and System Theory Group. Since 2016, he has also been a member of the Collaborative Research Center (1261) at the University of Kiel, Germany, focusing on Magnetoelectric (ME) Sensors. In 2022, he received his Dr.-Ing. degree for his research on muscle and nerve signals using electrical and magnetic sensors. In 2023, the University of Kiel and the German Society for Biomedical Engineering (DGBMT) awarded him for his doctoral thesis. Since September 2023, he has been chairman of the DGBMT board for Magnetic Methods in Medicine. Since 2024, he has been a postdoctoral researcher and member of the Chair of Microwave Engineering.

Research: Highly-Sensitive Magnetometers, Biomagnetic Sensing, Sensor Readout and Biomedical Signal Processing

Topic: Magnetoelectric Sensor Characterization

The Collaborative Research Centre (CRC) 1261 is currently investigating novel thin film magnetoelectric (ME) sensor concepts for biomedical applications. These concepts allow contactless magnetic signal acquisition in the presence of large interfering fields, such as the Earth's magnetic field, and operate at room temperature by default. As more and more different ME sensor concepts are being researched and made available, the need for comparative quality metrics is growing.

The aim of this DFG-funded Project Z2 within the CRC1261 is the functional characterization of the different ME sensors within the CRC (determination of the spectral distribution of the noise, the detection limit, the cross-sensitivity, and the directional characterization of the ME sensors), the fabrication of the measurement hardware, the automation of the measurement procedures and the measurement support for the biomedical applications.
